Tooth loss is a common problem that unfortunately affects many American adults today. This problem persists despite advances in dental technology and oral hygiene education.

Certainly, tooth loss greatly affects a person’s dental health. However, tooth loss is not just a dental health problem. It also affects a person’s overall and psychological health.

Tooth loss negatively affects a person’s physical or overall health in a number of ways. Failure to replace a missing tooth or multiple missing teeth can leave a space in your mouth for bacteria to build up, causing periodontal disease. It can also make it difficult for you to properly chew and/or digest certain foods that are rich in fiber and important nutrients. In many cases, people with missing teeth will adjust their diets to eliminate these types of foods and will incorporate more of the softer, heavily-processed foods in their place. This can lead to nutritional imbalances and weight-gain. Weight-gain can in turn lead to a myriad of serious health problems including Diabetes and heart disease.

And then there is the negative affect of tooth loss on a person’s self-esteem, confidence and overall psychological health. Many individuals with tooth loss report that they are embarrassed to speak, laugh, smile or eat in the presence of others. This can lead to feelings of loneliness, isolation and depression.

Fortunately, dental implants provide a long-term solution to missing teeth that provides for replacement teeth that look, feel and function like natural teeth. Many individuals all over the world have regained their dental, overall and psychological health thanks to this revolutionary tooth replacement system.

You do not have to live with the hassle and embarrassment caused by missing teeth. If you are missing one or more of your teeth, talk to a dental implants specialists or oral surgeon today to find out if dental implants are right for you

Are new teeth on your grown up Christmas list this year?  Has the pain and embarrassment of living with missing teeth caused you to withdraw from others and from social situations?  Has eating become tedious and potentially embarrassing due to slipping dentures?  Are you tired of dealing with sticky, gooey denture adhesive creams?  If so, maybe this year is the time to give yourself one of the greatest gifts…new teeth.

After all, our teeth affect many aspects of our lives.   Most of us don’t realize this until we are faced with tooth loss.  We take for granted the fact that we are able to eat the foods we want and smile, talk and laugh with confidence.  It is only when we lose our teeth that we realize the important role they play in our everyday functions and interactions.

While dentures, partial dentures and bridges are all options for replacing missing teeth, the only permanent solution is dental implants.  Dental implants also have many other benefits over other tooth replacement systems.  Dental implants allow for replacement teeth that look, feel and function like normal teeth.  Therefore, patients with dental implants do not have to modify their diets and can eat the foods they love without worry.  Dental implants do not require the use of adhesive creams since they are permanently anchored in a patient’s jawbone.  Patients with dental implant supported replacement teeth do not have to worry about them slipping or falling out.

If you are interested in giving yourself the gift of healthy teeth this holiday season, contact a qualified oral surgeon in your local area.  Many oral surgery practices offer financing options that allow patients to pay for their dental implants over time.  Happy Holidays!

We have all heard the popular saying, “laughter is the best medicine.”  However, most of us don’t realize how true this saying is.  Aside from the immediate benefit of making us feel happy or amused, laughter and humor have a very positive effect on  our physical and mental health.  Unfortunately, laughing can be stressful and embarrassing for patients with missing teeth.

Laughter and humor can improve your physical health by boosting your immunity, lowering stress hormones, decreasing pain and relaxing your muscles.  In fact, a good strong laugh relieves physical tension and stress in your muscles for up to forty-five minutes after.  Laughter also improves the function of blood vessels and increases blood flow.  This can help protect you against a heart attack and other cardiovascular problems.

Laughter and humor positively affect your mental health by easing anxiety and fear, relieving stress, improving your mood and enhancing your resilience.  Often a good laugh is all we need to get us through a difficult situation and can help to restore our hope.

Many patients with missing teeth are hesitant to laugh for fear of revealing their tooth loss to others around them.  This definitely puts a damper on social interactions and can negatively affect personal relationships.

Fortunately, thanks to dental implants, patients with missing teeth now have a lot to laugh about.  Dental implants are a permanent solution to missing teeth that allow for replacement teeth that look, feel and function like normal teeth.  Dental implants enable patients with missing teeth to once again smile and laugh with confidence.  If you are suffering from tooth loss and are afraid or embarrassed to laugh or smile, contact an Oral Surgeon in your area to get more information about this revolutionary tooth replacement system.  Laughter really is the best medicine!

Currently, the options for replacing missing teeth include bridges, dentures and dental implants.  Of these options, only dental implants provide a permanent solution that allows for replacement teeth that look, feel and function like natural teeth.  For this reason, the popularity of dental implants continues to increase.

Dental implants are prosthetic tooth roots that are placed in a patient’s jawbone to take the place of missing tooth roots.  Once the jawbone has healed and the implants are securely in place (a process know as osseointegration), a crown or bridge may be fixed to the implants to take the place of missing teeth.

Dental implants have become increasingly popular since their endorsement by the ADA (American Dental Association) in 1986.  In fact, between the years of 1986 and 1999, the number of dental implants procedures in the United States tripled.  It is now estimated that more than half a million dental implants are placed in the United States every year.

It is widely recognized that dental implants cost more than other tooth replacement options such as bridges and dentures.  Why then is this procedure becoming so popular?  Dental implants are the preferred tooth replacement option for most patients because they look natural, feel natural and allow for normal speech and normal chewing function.  Importantly, unlike dentures, dental implants are not at risk for slipping and falling out and do not require the use of adhesive creams.

Patients who receive dental implants find themselves free from the shame and embarrassment of missing teeth and experience an increase in their confidence as well as their overall quality of life.  To join the millions of Americans who have benefited from dental implants, contact an oral surgeon today.

You can say a lot without saying anything at all.  Just by smiling, you can convey a range of emotions from happiness to relief.  Smiles can have many different types of meanings and interpretations.  They can be wistful, beaming, flirtatious, shy, bold, sexy, confident, nervous and much more.  Those people in our lives who know us well will often know what we are feeling just by reading our body language including our smiles.

Your smile can also say a lot about you to people you do not yet know.  For instance, during a job interview or a first date, your smile is often the first impression people get.  Many assumptions are made about you, just based on your smile.  When meeting people for the first time, does your smile convey confidence, or does it highlight your insecurities?  The answer to this could have an important affect on your life.

Missing teeth can negatively affect your smile, your overall appearance and your confidence.  If teeth are not replaced, bone loss will occur causing negative changes in the facial appearance.  These changes cause patients to look older than their actual ages.  In addition, many patients with missing teeth will alter their smiles or avoid smiling altogether to hide the fact that they are missing teeth.  Since smiling signals that you are open to interactions with others, this can negatively affect social interactions and relationships.

Dental implants now provide patients with a permanent solution to missing teeth that does not cause bone loss and actually enhances their facial appearances.   Dental implants are prosthetic anchors that are embedded in the jawbone to take the place of missing tooth roots.  Once the jawbone has healed and the anchors are secured, natural looking crowns may be attached to the dental implants to take the place of missing teeth.  This revolutionary dental treatment allows for replacement teeth that look, feel and function like natural teeth.

If your smile has been negatively affected by tooth loss, please contact an oral surgeon in your area to get more information about dental implants.  You will be glad you did.

It is October in Atlanta and Fall is in the air.  The leaves are turning pretty hues of orange, red and yellow and the temperatures are finally dropping after a long hot summer.  This means that the holiday season is just around the corner!

November, December and January are full of traditional American holidays including Thanksgiving, Christmas, Chanukah and New Year’s Eve.  These holidays bring us fun and festive times to get together and celebrate with family and close friends.  What do all of these holidays have in common?  The answer is food!

Each of these American holidays is associated with certain foods, although traditions may vary between families or ethnicities.  For instance, turkey and cranberry sauce are usually associated with Thanksgiving while black-eyed peas and rice are a New Year’s tradition for many families.  Whatever is served, the important part of enjoying the holidays is sharing meals with your family and those that you love.

Unfortunately, not everyone looks forward to the holidays.  For patients who wear dentures or patients with missing teeth, meal times can be stressful and tedious.  If tooth loss or dentures have taken the joy out of sharing holiday meals with friends and family members, you may want to talk to an oral surgeon about dental implants.

Dental implants are a permanent tooth replacement system that provides for replacement teeth that look, feel and function like natural teeth.  The process involves inserting prosthetic anchors into your jawbone to take the place of missing tooth roots.  Once the bone has healed and the anchor is securely in place, a crown, bridge or partial denture may be attached to the implant to take the place of a missing tooth or missing teeth.

If you are currently missing teeth or wearing dentures, there is no need to dread the holiday season this year.  Contact an oral surgeon to get more information about dental implants and how they can benefit you.  Happy Holidays!

When considering one’s overall health, it is important to take into consideration both the physical and mental or emotional aspects of health.  It is also important to factor in the link between physical and mental health; often referred to as “the mind/body connection.”

How does this apply to dental implants?  The answer is that dental implants are good for both your physical health and your mental health.  Let’s start with the positive affect dental implants can have on your physical health.  Since dental implants allow for replacement teeth that function like natural teeth, patients with dental implants do not have to restrict their diets.  Unlike patients with dentures, patients with dental implants do not have to replace foods that are high in fiber and rich in nutrients with high fat, high carbohydrate foods that are easier to chew.  Studies have shown that eating a diet that is high in fiber-rich, nutrient dense food can help you to maintain a healthy weight, normal blood pressure and a healthy cardiovascular system.  Conversely, a diet that is rich in high fat, high carbohydrate foods has been shown to cause heart disease, diabetes, obesity and even some forms of cancer.

Now let’s talk about the affect dental implants can have on your mental health.  If you are currently wearing dentures or have worn them in the past, you have probably worried at some point about them slipping or falling out during social interactions such as eating, laughing and talking.  Many patients also worry that their dentures are easily detectable and do not look like natural teeth.  This can lead to a loss in confidence and can take the joy out of everyday activities.  Dental implants enable patients with missing teeth to have permanent replacement teeth that look, feel and function like natural teeth.  This frees patients from fear and embarrassment and enables them to once again eat, laugh talk and smile with confidence.

Contact an Oral Surgeon to get more information about dental implants and how they may benefit you.  You will be glad you did!

According to a quote from Charles Reade, “Beauty is power; a smile its sword.”  Our smile creates a lasting first impression and sends signals to others that we are friendly, approachable and confident people.  The truth is, attractiveness can determine how others perceive you and treat you.  Scientific research has proven that the better you look, the better others treat you. Whether you are in a job interview or on a first date, your smile is one of your most important assets.

According to Lee Mildon “People seldom notice old clothes if you wear a big smile.”  Charles Gordy says “A smile is an inexpensive way to change your looks.”  These quotes just further demonstrate how important your smile is to your overall appearance.

But what if your smile is hindered by the embarrassment of missing teeth?  Do you hide your smile?  Do you turn away from people, even if just slightly to hide the gap in your mouth from a missing tooth?  Do you withhold your smile from a big grin even at the funniest moments?  Missing teeth can destroy your self-confidence and change how your smile.

If missing teeth or wearing dentures are hindering your smile, dental implants are definitely worth considering.  Dental implants are prosthetic tooth roots that allow for replacement teeth that look, feel and function like normal teeth.  This revolutionary tooth replacement system has enabled millions of patients to once again smile, laugh and speak with confidence.  Talk to an Oral Surgeon today about dental implants and how they may improve your appearance.
